services we provide

Young people are supported in different ways according to their needs:

24 hour staffed units

Young people with more complex and higher-level needs are accommodated in our 24-hour units with staff on duty during the day and night. Each young person has their own private room and shares communal facilities. Our 24-hour staffed units are small enough to feel welcoming but large enough to ensure young people feel part of a community.

semi-independent placements (solo and shared)

Young people in solo accommodation have access to all the facilities that would enable them to experience living independently but with the ongoing support of our services. We do not want young people in these placements to feel isolated so we encourage social engagement by offering workshops, entertainment and trips.

Young people with low to medium needs are accommodated in semi-independent placements with visiting key workers and on-call telephone support, including an out of hours’ service post-5pm and at weekends. Each young person has their own private room and they share communal facilities. Careful consideration is given to the dynamics of those housed in shared accommodation to ensure that residents are only placed in amicable situations. Units are welcoming and promote opportunities for discussion, interaction and socialising.

Outreach work

Step Ahead Services also provides outreach support to young people living in the community who need additional assistance in acquiring independent living skills. Where possible, we try to encourage these young people to develop support networks within their local communities, but we also provide opportunities for peer interaction with other young people in our services through trips and social events.
